Iceland links
Iceland Express have cancelled their summer
service to Reykjavik from Edinburgh as the
troubled airline makes big cuts to it's
activities.

Time's up for
bmi
Following the acquisition of loss-making British
Midland Limited (bmi) by British Airways' parent
company IAG, the end is imminent for bmi's
frequent links between Edinburgh and London
Heathrow. British Airways are expected to
increase the number of seats they offer on the
Shuttle to absorb some of the demand on what
will become a monopoly route. bmi provided up to
eight returns a day between the capital cities
of Scotland and England.

Kent coast cut
Flybe have cancelled their flights between
Edinburgh and Manston Kent International. The
airline is withdrawing from Manston citing low
demand from the south coast airport.

Turkish
delight
Turkish Airlines have plans for a new service
between Edinburgh and their world hub at
Istanbul. The details of the service are as yet
are unconfirmed.

Ryanair chop
two routes and add one
Ryanair's seasonal flights to Bologna and
Marrakech will not be resumed for the summer
according to the Ryanair booking engine. However
a new destination has been added - Verona in the
north of Italy is linked by twice weekly flights
from the end of March until the end of October.

Budget flights
to Bergen
Norwegian have added new budget flights between
Bergen and Edinburgh. Direct flights will
operate twice a week over the summer season.

Edinburgh Airport handled 642,100 passengers in
November - a gain of 3.2% on the same month last
year. Total passengers for the year to November
2011 stands at 9,266,400 which is 6.5% up on the
same period last year.

October - a gain of 1.8% on the same month last

Edinburgh
Airport For Sale
BAA have announced that Edinburgh Airport is to
be sold to new owners to comply with the
Competition Commission's demand that BAA must
divest one of their big two Scottish airports.
BAA intend to formally approach the market in
the New Year and listen to offers with a view to
completing the sale by the summer. The price tag
is estimated to be in the region of £600 million
and early indications point to interest from
airport operators MAG, GIP and Fraport as well
as a local consortium headed by former airport
boss, Richard Jeffrey.

Galway link
closed
Aer Arann are closing their Galway Airport
operations. Flights to Edinburgh are amongst the
cull which leaves the future of the Irish
airport in doubt.

More easyJet
destinations
easyJet have added two more destinations from
their Edinburgh base for summer 2012. Dalaman
and Naples will each have two departures a week
commencing 17 and 18 April respectively. However
services to Cologne/Bonn cease in January.

Finnish budget airline Blue1 will be back for
summer '12 with two flights a week between
Edinburgh and Helsinki. The service operates on
Thursdays and Sundays until the end April until

winter return
Germanwings have turned their seasonal service
to Cologne/Bonn into a year -round route with
the addition of up to four weekly flights from
Edinburgh over the winter. For the summer season
the schedule increases to six flights a week as

Ryanair cut
deep this winter
Ryanair are axing more than a quarter of its
routes from Edinburgh this winter. The no-frills
airline will not fly to nine of the 32 European
destinations it offered from Edinburgh last
winter. A total of 20 of its 100 flights a week
from the airport will be cut. They include
Berlin, Malta, Marrakesh, Tampere, Bologna,
Memmingen, Poznan, Tallinn and Turin.

Alicante for Summer '12
Jet2.com have announced a new service from
Edinburgh to Alicante for 2012. Low fare flights
to the Costa Blanca airport will go four times a
