Edinburgh Airport has 2 operational runways;
The main runway 06/24 measures 8389 feet, and the secondary
runway 12/30 is 5899 feet. There are currently around 22
terminal stands with approximately 15 additional remote parking
stands with more being constructed. There is no dedicated viewing area in the terminal, but
beyond security control the departure lounge has views to the
runway.
For enthusiasts and visitors, excellent views of the landing and departing aircraft can be found
at the following locations:
Ingliston Market: A huge open air area adjacent to the perimeter
fence west of the terminal. Follow signs to Quality Inn and Royal
Highland Showground. There's a raised mound in the far west corner
which affords views over the fence line.
Turnhouse: Lennymuir Road. Follow the signs from the A8 to the
Cargo Centre and continue towards the runway approach lights for
excellent views of aircraft on very short finals to Runway 24.
This is the runway usually in use but sometimes landing and
take-off is from the 06 end, depending on the wind direction.
Almond Bank: On the north perimeter facing the runway with
excellent views of all movements but also facing the
morning sun.
